K9 LEAP Grant Program

The K9 LEAP Grant Program was developed to assist Law Enforcement Agencies overcome budget restrictions, and the often times overwhelming costs associated with acquiring and deploying Highly Skilled, Operationally Efficient, working Police Service K9's.

Funding assistance is available on a State-by-State basis, to approved Law Enforcement Agencies located in, or serving in, the given State in which the Grant Program is being offered.

Current availability status of the K9 LEAP Grant:

GRANT STATUS EXTENDED - APPLY by August 1, 2010. Internal Grant of $2,500.00 per K9 (Single or Dual Purpose), is available towards the purchase costs of the K9 from K9 Working Dogs International, LLC, for Law Enforcement Agencies that apply, as follows:

 

 

 

 

If your Department or Agency is currently researching various K9 Grant resources available to Law Enforcement Agencies for the expansion of an existing K9 Unit, or is interested in implementing a K9 Unit, we suggest applying immediately for the K9 LEAP Grant! If you are currently raising funds for a K9, or will be in the next 4 to 6 months, apply now, as Grant funding is available to Agencies that qualify on a first-come-first-serve approval process. If your State is not listed above in the K9 LEAP Grant Program availability, PLEASE contact us to request funding resources for Agencies in your State.

K9 Working Dogs International also provides this list of K9 Grants to assist with the research for available grants to interested Law Enforcement Agencies. We also suggest launching a Fund Raiser within your community, which can be a very successful way to raise the required funding for your K9 Units. Most small-large businesses appreciate the deterrence, tracking, and drug control that a K9 uniquely provides to the community, as well as the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to the community and to support their local Law Enforcement Agencies and Officers.

Grant Details: Amount:  FY 03 est $40,000,000 Application Due Date:  01/01/2010	Description:  To encourage States to adopt effective programs to reduce crashes resulting from persons driving while under the influence of alcohol and other controlled substances.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Training Assistance
Grant Details: Amount:  FY 04 est $2,500,000. Agencies will bear the cost of training on a reimbursable basis. Application Due Date:  01/01/2010	Description:  Training programs are conducted in the areas of: Identification of the Firearms Problem; Motives and Analysis of Applicable Federal, State and Local Laws; Laboratory Capability; Sources of Information; Interviewing; Investigative Techniques; and Case Management.

BJA - Byrne Formula Grant Program
Grant Details: Amount:  FY 04 est $482,928,400 Application Due Date:  01/01/2010	Description:  Funds may be used to support 29 purpose areas specified in the authorization legislation. Generally, funds may be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, facilities (including upgraded and additional law enforcement crime laboratories), personnel training and equipment for more widespread apprehension, prosecution and adjudication of persons who violate state and local laws relating to the production, possession and transfer of controlled substances and to improve the criminal justice system. The Act restricts the use of these funds for supplanting state and local funds and land acquisition, and construction other than penal or correctional facilities.

BJA - Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program
Grant Details: Amount:  FY 04 est $0 Application Due Date:  01/01/2010	Description:  Funds may be used for one or more of the following purpose areas: (1) Law enforcement support for hiring, training, and employing on a continuing basis new, additional law enforcement officers and necessary support personnel; paying overtime to presently employed law enforcement officers and necessary support personnel; and procuring equipment, technology, and other material directly related to basic law enforcement functions; (2) Enhancing security measures in and around schools, and in and around any other facility or location that the unit of local government considers a special risk for incidents of crime; (3) Establishing or supporting drug courts; (4) Enhancing the adjudication of cases involving violent offenders, including cases involving violent juvenile offenders. For the purposes of this program, violent offender means a person charged with committing a Part I violent crime under the Uniform Crime Reports; (5) Establishing a multijurisdictional task force, particularly in rural areas, composed of law enforcement officials representing units of local government; this task force will work with Federal law enforcement officials to prevent and control crime; (6) Establishing crime prevention programs involving cooperation between community residents and law enforcement personnel to control, detect, or investigate crime or the prosecution of criminals; and (7) Defraying the cost of indemnification insurance for law enforcement officers. Recipients may not expend funds provided under the Block Grants Program to purchase, lease, rent, or acquire any of the following: tanks or armored vehicles; fixed-wing aircraft; limousines; real estate; yachts; consultants; and vehicles not primarily used for law enforcement. In addition, Federal funds cannot be used to supplant State or local funds, but instead to increase the amount of funds that would be available otherwise from State and local sources.

BJA-Law Enforcement Block Grant Program
Grant Details: Amount:  $80,000.00 Application Due Date:  01/01/2010	Description:  Looking to purchase an Emergency Response Vehicle and all required equipment(suits,testing equip.,containmant equip.,decontamination equip.) and training for 6 full time officers. We have a rail line that runs through the center of our city, and also has a switch, where there are train cars parked sometimes for days at a time. This is in close proximity to three schools, one of which is less than one hundred yards away from the rail line. We have no equipment or training in disaster response regarding some of the chemicals that could be released if a train derails or has an accident.
